Christian The term "Christian" holds many meanings for people today. At YLPC it means that we embrace the life, teachings and purpose of Jesus Christ as described in the Bible.
Community God likes groups. From the beginning God calls individuals from being alone to learning to live life together. This is a challenging concept in our individualistic culture, but it is how God chooses to function (since God is a unique community between Father, Son and Spirit). Community reminds us that we are not alone. So whether we gather for worship, programs, events, studies, etc., at YLPC we are intentional in being a community in everything we do.
Worship Most of us don't listen to Organ music in our cars nor choral music on our iPods. Most of us don't wear academic robes in our work place. Most of us don't show up in public spaces and confess our sin together and ask for forgiveness-and then sing in response to forgiveness. Most of us don't randomly read sections of a book and then seek to submit our lives to what it says. But this is what occurs on Sunday morning at YLPC. Our corporate worship is unique from the rest of our week (and the discontinuity is striking!) Yet the stylistic and substantive discontinuity helps us to remember that corporate worship is truly set apart from the rest of the week, and what we offer to God (and what we receive from God) is worth the investment.
Mission Jesus had a purpose. He wanted to announce that God was going to show up on earth in new ways that would change everything. He considered this good news that would be a blessing to the world. In Jesus' life people who were broken were healed, people who were down-and-out were lifted up, people who were spiritually far from God were welcomed back. At YLPC we seek to do the same, trusting that, in Jesus' name, we too can be a blessing in the world.
