![]() ![]() In the 1980's, the Presbytery of Los Ranchos embarked on a mission priority entitled Mission On Our Doorstep (MOOD). The vision was to start or redevelop 15 congregations within a decade. A major demographic study was commissioned that identified priority locations for planning new Presbyterian churches within the presbytery bounds. Yorba Linda, in northeast Orange County, was one of those locations. In 1989, the presbytery purchased 3.5 acres on the corner of Yorba Linda Boulevard and Palm Avenue. The Reverend Dr. Jack G Schutte was called from his position as Pastor of The Ginter Park Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Virginia, to become the organizing pastor in Yorba Linda. He arrived in March, 1990 to begin his ministry. A community group of five families had been part of the pastor calling process. Those five families began worshipping on the second Sunday of March, 1990. Fifteen persons attended the first worship service in the fellowship hall of the Yorba Linda Masonic Lodge, which would serve as the worship center for the next three years. Through community outreach, phone calls and personal invitations, the worshipping congregation continued to grow and reached chartering size after twenty months. The Yorba Linda Presbyterian Church (YLPC) was chartered on the second anniversary of its first worship service - March 15, 1992. The chartering service, held in a tent erected on the parking lot of the Masonic Lodge included the 104 charter members. On the first anniversary of chartering - March 1993 - the congregation moved into its new building on the property purchased by the Presbytery of Los Ranchos. Rapidly growing, the building was almost immediately too small for worship and Sunday school. Two worship services and two hours of Sunday school were begun after three weeks in the facility. The new building we currently worship in was dedicated in April, 2002. After the departure of Reverend Schutte in February, 2003, the Reverend Dr. Vartkes "Kass" Kassouni served as interim pastor for three years. In February 2005, a Pastor Nominating Committee was elected to search for a new pastor. The Reverend Daniel S. White was installed as the new pastor of YLPC in May, 2006. God has richly blessed our church and many of our members come from unchurched backgrounds. We are an ethnically diverse congregation who share a common thread - a true love of our Lord Jesus Christ. By the power of the Holy Spirit, that outreach will continue and the church and its members will continue to touch lives for Jesus Christ in the years to come. |
