Christian marriage Marriage is God's idea. The Bible uses the metaphor of marriage to communicate his love and commitment for his church, and for the faithfulness he offers toward his people. It is appropriate, then, that marriages are celebrated at a church, for the wedding ceremony is truly a service of worship. We gather to thank God-who is the source of every good gift and the truest expression of love and commitment-for the love that a man and a woman have for one another.
Arranging a wedding at Yorba Linda Presbyterian Church After reviewing the material below, please contact the church office to receive an information packet.
- Dates: The bride and groom should contact the church office to request preferred dates and times for the wedding and wedding rehearsal. Dates will not be finalized until YLPC has confirmed the availability of all necessary parties (Pastor, organist, facilities chair, etc.). When availability is confirmed, your wedding date is secured by a $250 non-refundable deposit.
- The Wedding Team: Once a date has been secured, the bride and groom will coordinate meetings with a) the wedding coordinator; (b) the music director; (c) the Pastor.
- Pastor: All weddings at YLPC are officiated by the YLPC pastor. Participation by another pastor is possible, and may occur at the invitation of the YLPC pastor, who will also coordinate the visiting pastor's role. Those being married at YLPC are required to meet with the pastor for premarital consultation.
- Music: Because weddings at YLPC are services of worship, music chosen for weddings must be appropriate for the worship and glorification of God. All musical elements of the wedding service are decided in consultation with the YLPC Director of Music/Organist.
- Music Director: The bride and groom will schedule a meeting with the Director of Music at least one month before the wedding. At this meeting, the role and nature or music in the wedding service will be discussed, and a variety of pieces will be reviewed. - Rehearsals: Wedding rehearsals will ordinarily be held with the 48-hour period prior to the ceremony. (Thursday nights are not available for wedding rehearsals.) It is the strict policy of YLPC that alcoholic beverages are not be consumed during nor prior to any church event.
- Decoration and Flowers: Tape may not be used on the furniture. Only drip-less candles are allowed, and the furniture and floor must be protected from candle wax. All wedding equipment and decorations should be removed within one hour after the ceremony. Candelabra, aisle runners, pew bows and other decorations are provided by the bride and groom.
- Photography: During the ceremony, pictures may not be taken from the front of the sanctuary or in the aisles. A professional photographer may take non-flash photographs from the back of the sanctuary. Guests may NOT take flash photography during the worship service, and it is the responsibility of the ushers to make guests aware or this policy.
